Grandparents may be legally obligated to support grandchildren if the parents are unable to do so. This liability exists during the grandparent's lifetime, but currently, their deceased estate is not held liable for such support. Three factors determine this liability: the grandchild's inability to self-support, the parents' inability to provide support, and the grandparent's financial ability to provide support.
